Fernando Guerrero is Founder, Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Varadero Capital, L.P. (“Varadero”). A veteran of structured credit markets with over 35 years of experience, Mr. Guerrero founded Varadero in 2009 after an extensive career in both the securities and investment management businesses. Prior to forming Varadero, Mr. Guerrero was Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer of NIBC Credit Management, the fixed income investment arm of Dutch bank NIBC Bank, where he oversaw the firm’s North American business. Previously, Mr. Guerrero was Head of the Global Structured Products Group at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, where he joined in 2005. Before moving into investment management, Mr. Guerrero spent over two decades at institutional securities firms. He held senior and leadership positions at ABN Amro Bank, TD Bank, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and Banker’s Trust, developing a reputation for managing and building global securitization and debt capital markets desks. Mr. Guerrero began his career in commercial banking at Texas Commerce Bank in Houston, moving to New York after the bank’s acquisition by Chemical Bank, where he joined the asset-backed securitization group. Mr. Guerrero has a B.S. and an M.S. degree in Finance from Louisiana State University, and he is a graduate of the Program for Management Development at The Harvard Business School. Mr. Guerrero is also a member of the board of Island Finance, LLC and the LSU Foundation National Board.
